The President of Nigeria Professional Wrestlers Federation (NPWF), Chief john Uche said that the body has mapped out strategies for the development of indigenous wrestling to enable key players of Nigeria extraction see their profession as lucrative as their western counterparts.
Speaking to Evergreen News African in an interview, Chief Uche hinted that the association has succeeded in getting approval of both the Anambra and Lagos States governments to host the tournament.

Chief Uche who spoke from his Lagos residence explained that participants will be drawn from all over Nigeria and beyond, explained that days are gone when sports lovers do not have interest in watching indigenous wrestlers in action.
According to him the first of its kind was held in Lagos in February last year while the second tournament which was to hold in Anambra state of Nigeria from 7th and 8th of October, 2023 was cancelled due insecurity in the South East.
He however, explained that the International wrestling championship scheduled to hold at ROJENY Stadium, Oba Anambra State has been shifted to December 2023 due the insecurity.
The tournament, he said will be juicy and entertaining from the blast of the whistle to the end.
Chief Uche, therefore, urged Nigerians and Africans in general to see indigenous sports in Nigeria and indeed Africa in general as good as their western counterpart.
